Texas courts may recognize divorce judgments issued in other countries under the doctrine of international comity, but that recognition is not automatic. In a recent decision, the Texas Supreme Court held that a foreign divorce obtained without constitutionally adequate notice could not prevent a spouse from pursuing divorce proceedings in Texas.
